Findings of the Youth Educational Needs Assessment

The fact sheets present key findings from a youth needs assessment conducted by Ajyal Association for Creativity and Development during May and June 2026 under the “From Voice to Action” project, funded by the European Union and supported by Expertise France.

The findings reveal a significant deterioration in young people’s educational situation. Only 28% reported that they remained enrolled in education, while 72% had interrupted their studies or were unable to continue. This disruption was linked to the destruction or closure of educational institutions, continued displacement, difficulties in safely accessing learning facilities, and families’ reduced financial capacity to cover education-related costs.

The assessment also found that 66% of youth considered the available curricula or learning materials unsuitable for their current needs. Seventy-seven percent reported needing structured programmes to compensate for learning loss, while 69% identified a need for mental health and psychosocial support integrated into education.

Young people with disabilities face particularly severe barriers because of limited physical accessibility and inadequate supportive services, increasing their risk of exclusion from education and recovery opportunities.

The findings demonstrate that restoring education requires more than returning learners to classrooms. It requires structured learning-recovery programmes, updated and context-appropriate curricula, integrated psychosocial support, safe and inclusive access to learning opportunities, and targeted assistance for young people with disabilities and economically vulnerable families. A comprehensive response is therefore essential to rebuild educational continuity and prevent further long-term exclusion.
