WASH Support for War-Affected Populations in the Gaza Strip

Ajyal Association for Creativity and Development, in partnership with Peace Winds Japan, is implementing the “WASH Support for War-Affected Populations in the Gaza Strip” project to support internally displaced people living in shelters. The project runs in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah Governorate from 1 June to 31 October 2026.

The project aims to improve personal hygiene practices, reduce the risk of diseases linked to inadequate WASH services, and help families protect their health and dignity amid overcrowding and supply shortages. It will reach 1,260 displaced children aged 7–16 and their households across designated shelters in the two target areas.

Activities include coordination with the WASH Cluster and five days of capacity building for 22 hygiene promoters. They will facilitate awareness sessions on personal hygiene, infection prevention, and the safe use of hygiene supplies. The project will also distribute 1,260 hygiene kits containing soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, and wet wipes. In addition, ten shelters will receive essential hygiene and cleaning materials to improve their environment.

Ajyal will apply safety, safeguarding, and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse standards throughout implementation. Beneficiary selection, training, procurement, awareness activities, and distributions will be documented and monitored in coordination with Peace Winds Japan. Post-assessments will measure participant benefit and changes in hygiene practices. Through this approach, the project will reduce health risks, improve shelter conditions, and promote sustainable hygiene knowledge and behaviours among children and their families.
